The Launch of the What Works Institute

Great discoveries and improvements invariably involve the cooperation of many minds.
— Alexander Graham Bell

As I reflect on nearly 30 years in engineering and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), this quote resonates deeply. It captures the essence of the journey that has brought me to this moment—co-founding the What Works Institute.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the most insightful and dedicated HSE professionals. These deep conversations and shared challenges have shown me how much we can achieve when we bring our minds together, think forward, and formulate actionable plans. The real progress in safety comes from leaders and experts willing to share not only successes but also the hard lessons learned along the way.

The What Works Institute is built on this foundation of collaboration. We’re creating a community space where organizations can connect, share knowledge, and work toward effective solutions for their most pressing safety challenges.

Through strategic, member-driven research, practical tools, and regulatory advocacy, we aim to support our members in staying at the forefront of the evolving HSE landscape. We’re here to accelerate learning, listening, and building—together.

Even after nearly 30 years in the industry, I’m continually inspired by how much more there is to learn and explore.

I’m excited to begin this new chapter, and I invite organizations eager for growth and innovation in safety to join us as we discover What Works for them.
